Handcrafted. Repurposed. Denim.

Taking the best of denim and making something of it.

hargan denim™ has always been more than just a brand; it started from a 7 year old little girl dreaming of being the next Coco Chanel, making American Girl Doll clothes with her Barbie sewing machine, to mocking up fashion magazines and putting on runway shows for her family in her basement, fashion was always her safe haven.

The vision I had in my head of one day being able to share my passion with people is what pushes and motivates me everyday to just keep going. With only one college in mind—the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles—I made the decision to graduate high school early, working three jobs to make my dream a reality. While pursuing my AA in Fashion Design, I created my first pair of jeans for a patterning class final. There was something about denim—the shades of blue, the structure, the durability, the story one pair of jeans hold— I fell in love.

My passion led me to the Business of Denim Program at FIDM, where I pursued an advanced degree specializing in denim. It was here that I transformed my childhood dream into a tangible reality. Throughout the program, I gained an in-depth understanding of the denim industry—from the process of turning cotton into thread, to the intricate dyeing methods that achieve the perfect shades of blue, to the finishing techniques that create that vintage feel. But most importantly, the environmental impact of the denim industry.

No matter what you think the world’s biggest issues are, you are unlikely to think of fashion as either a problem or a solution. Yet, ethical, sustainable fashion could help address many of these issues in a way you’d not expect. Even better, clothing is something that everyone needs and uses, making it an extremely accessible avenue for the average person to affect change.

In an era where fast fashion prioritizes trends and profits over the quality and careful creation process of denim, hargan denim™ turned into a dream of a desire to create something meaningful, something that resonates with people and makes a positive impact not only on their lives but on the environment.

When I hear the word denim, I think classic, authentic, intimate, personal. Denim tells a story. Whether it is the first pair of jeans you bought, a vintage pair that reminds you of a memory, or a pair that makes you feel like the best looking human in the world, denim continues to play an active role in your life. I build my denim knowing you are going to be creating another memory in this pair of jeans. Taking the time to make that extra stitch for long-term durability, smoothing out that 1/8” curve for comfortability, putting in that little extra detailed stitch for uniqutivity. In hopes that this pair of jeans, with the amazing stories you have created wearing them, gets passed down from generation to generation, bringing back that tradition, classic, authentic, intimate and personal feel that brought denim about.
